Challenges of Central and Eastern Europe, Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach, czwartek, 27. sierpień 2020

Central and Eastern Europe is an ethnically and culturally rich region. On the one hand, the countries and nations comprising it are vastly different, but on the other hand they share the legacy of the Iron Curtain. At present, the region faces multiple challenges. Most of its countries are members of the European Union, but so far they have not been speaking with a common voice that could make them a significant force within the Union.

The conference focuses on the analysis of challenges currently facing Central and Eastern Europe and their multifaceted conditions. Will the countries of the region decide to unite and articulate their common interests more forcefully? What security challenges do they contend with? What will be the position of Central and Eastern Europe in global geopolitics?

The meeting aims to be interdisciplinary; as organizers, we hope that presentations by specialists from various fields will allow for an analysis of the situation from multiple vantage points and – perhaps – for articulating potential solutions and prognoses for the future. We are also inviting participants for a special panel devoted to the topic Contemporary integration initiatives and the geopolitics and security of Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkan Peninsula.

Proposed topics for presentations:

- Challenges of Central and Eastern Europe,

- Security of Central and Eastern Europe,

or any other if it agrees with the topic.
